Alex’s second season with Williams Racing proved to be a fruitful one for our Thai racer.
Now fully settled in at Grove after his maiden campaign with the team, Albono laid down a marker from his first race of 2023.
He kicked off the year by placing P10 at the Bahrain Grand Prix — fending off AlphaTauri’s Yuki Tsunoda to claim a valuable point, after starting 15th on the grid.
That represented Williams’ best Round 1 performance since 2007, but Alex was initially unable to build on such an impressive display.
The Saudi Arabian GP and Australian GP proved to be challenging outings, with retirements in both races, before he endured a sequence of pointless finishes from April through to early June.
However, it wasn’t long until his season turned a corner.
Albono bounced back in style at the Canadian GP by securing an eye-catching P7 finish, after a commendable tenth-place Quali performance.
He almost made it consecutive hauls, too — narrowly missing out on a top ten spot in Austria the following weekend.
But another successful race was just around the corner, when Alex added four more points to Williams’ total after placing P8 at Silverstone in July.
The second half of the season then saw him secure a pair of back-to-back points finishes.
Just two rounds after coming close in Hungary, he once again finished eighth — this time at the Dutch GP — before immediately following that result up by placing P7 in Monza.
By this stage AA23 had far eclipsed the four points he put on the board in 2022, and there was more to come in the campaign’s latter stages.
A sensational drive resulted in Sprint points at the Qatar GP, as Alex rose through the rankings from a P17 starting position to finish in P7.
That was backed up by a productive pair of races in North America, with consecutive P9 placings at the United States GP and in Mexico City.
Though the final three Grands Prix of the year didn’t quite match that high, Albono could reflect on a job well done in 2023 — picking up 27 points and helping Williams Racing finish 7th in the Constructors’ Championship.
