Day one is over here in Miami as Alex endured a difficult start to the second sprint weekend of 2024.
With just a single hour of practice across the entire weekend, it was imperative that Alex maximised the time on track in FP1, however an early Charles Leclerc red flag halted proceedings. When practice resumed Albono rolled out for the day on fresh hard tyres, racking up a number of laps of the Miami International Autodrome.
15 minutes from the end it was time to swap out the hards for some fresh softs and Alex was able to record a 1:29.393, which would eventually be enough to finish the practice in P14.
Fast forward three hours and it was time for sprint qualifying. Heading out on medium pirellis, as per the FIA sprint regulations, Albono recorded an initial lap time of 1:29.858.
Voicing concerns of understeer on his second flying lap, Alex ran wide at Turn 15 and through the chicane, meaning this time of 1:29.112 was subsequently deleted.
A tough Q1 for our No.23 means it will be a P20 start in tomorrow’s sprint. We have no doubt Alex will be ready to battle up the grid and do everything to maximise what he can out of his FW46.
