Plans are afoot to stage a future Formula 1 Grand Prix in Thailand — and Alex is enthused by the prospect of a race in his home country.
F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra earlier this month, to discuss the idea of an event in the Southeast Asian nation from 2028.
Shinawatra will look into the feasibility of a Bangkok-based street circuit, though there is already an existing FIA-accredited track in Buriram.
Albono is unsurprisingly excited by the prospect, and has suggested that he will speak with Domenicali about the plans.
“I think we’re going to reach out later,” he said, ahead of last weekend’s Chinese GP.
“It’s very exciting, clearly for myself and I think for all of Formula 1 as well.
“Thailand’s an amazing country. And I'm sure people who have actually been to Thailand will all vouch for that.
“I’ll be excited to hopefully one day show my colleagues the culture of Thailand and the food.”
Of course, the weather in Thailand could make for a challenging race, as Alex later alluded to:
“It will be interesting, the heat, that’s one area [in] which we might become a Singapore 2.0.
“On my side I’m just doing everything I can to make that happen. Let’s see what happens.”
