Alex is back in Imola racing for the third time in his career at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix after the 2023 weekend was cancelled due to devastating floods in the region.
Our No.23 has seen continual improvement since his first time at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, so let's take a look back…
Racing for Red Bull in 2020, Alex started strong here, managing P6 in a close-cut qualifying session. On race day, he continued in pursuit of a podium, driving up to fifth.
However, an unfortunate spin on lap 58 put him out of contention, ending the race in P15 despite setting the third-fastest lap with a 1:16.177.
Two years later, Albono returned to Imola, now in the blue of Williams Racing. It was a tough start to the weekend, brakes catching fire in qualifying to seal his fate at the back of the grid for the Sprint.
Still, Alex battled through the adversity, overtaking his then-Williams teammate Nicholas Latifi and Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu to finish Saturday in P18.
24 hours later, Albono produced an impressive fight, rising six spots while warding off the attacks of Pierre Gasly and Lewis Hamilton for over half of the total race distance.
His determination earned a P11 finish, as he held onto the back of Alpine’s Esteban Ocon, who had received a five-second penalty.
We can’t wait to see Alex back on the tarmac of the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari!
