It was a tough race day for Alex in the lone star state, as our No.23 fought hard in his 100th Grand Prix to take the chequered flag in P16.
Starting on the grid in P14, Alex made contact with Ocon on the opening lap, leading to front wing damage and floor damage, the latter of which he would have to race with for the duration of the 56 laps.
Hamilton’s spin on lap 3 resulted in a welcomed safety car, allowing Alex to box and replace his front wing, while also swapping for new mediums.
Alex returned to the track at the back of the grid in P19, however with the field bunched up there was still plenty to play for.
The damage to Alex’s FW46 made life difficult for the rest of the race.
Despite this, Albono fought hard, longing out a stint on his mediums to rise as high as P14 before boxing for hard tyres on lap 34.
It was a quiet second half of the race for Alex as he pushed from the back of the grid. A shuffle of the pack, including an overtake on Bottas ultimately resulted in a P16 finish for our Thai driver.
After the race, Alex shared his thoughts on today's events, "It’s been a tough weekend. I feel like I got a little bit pinched on Turn 1 and once I had damage, that was it.
"It was a race in that I thought we were going to retire the car but were trying to play the long game and likely help out Franco with his race. The car was okay, but I feel like I’ve been struggling all weekend and we just haven’t been able to find the right spot with the Soft tyres.
"It’s a disappointing result but it’s only the beginning of the triple header, so hopefully we can make some changes and come back stronger in Mexico."
