The 2024 Formula 1 season has seen Alex put a number of points on the board — as well as coming agonisingly close on multiple occasions. Albono secured top ten finishes in Monaco and at Silverstone, but also finished P11 in consecutive rounds at the Saudi Arabian and Australian GPs. And it was a similar story in China and Belgium, when AA23’s P12 placings reflected positive performances, without turning those displays into tangible points. Though there have been some challenging weekends across the campaign, Alex will be buoyed by his two P9 finishes. The first of those came at the Circuit de Monaco, when he converted his ninth-place qualifying position into an equivalent result on Sunday.
“Whilst you’d rather have a slightly more exciting race to win points at, I’m still happy,” Alex said after the race. "P9 for the team and our first points of the season which means a lot to us.” Albono then added more points to Williams’ total four rounds later — this time at the British Grand Prix. He achieved P9 in testing circumstances, too, after sustaining aero damage in the early stages of the race and temporarily dropping to P12.
“We made contact in Turn 3 and more in Turn 4, also losing a chunk of the front wing, so I was a bit worried at the beginning," Alex explained. “After that, everything mostly fell into place, and I was happy. “I knew the rain would come and there would be a second chance, so I just had to stay patient and wait for the opportunities to arise. ”There will be plenty more opportunities to claim points over the season’s remaining ten grands prix, with upgrades to the FW46 planned in the near future. “We haven’t had any upgrades all year, so I think we’re just falling behind the pack too much, which makes things difficult,” Alex said after last weekend’s Belgian GP. “We’ve got some coming after the summer break, so hopefully, we can return more competitive.” The next opportunity to climb the standings will come in late August, when AA23 heads to the Circuit Zandvoort for Round 15 of the 2024 campaign.
