The season is entering its closing stages — and we've got a brand new stamp for Alex's penultimate race of 2024.
This week's stamp design beautifully reflects Qatar’s rich cultural heritage and its deep connection to the sea.
The pearl and shell motif is a tribute to Qatar’s historic pearl diving industry, which was a cornerstone of the country’s economy and way of life before the discovery of oil.
For centuries, Qatari divers braved the Gulf’s waters, often spending months at sea, to harvest pearls that were highly sought after across global markets.
This industry not only provided economic sustenance but also shaped the social fabric of coastal communities, fostering resilience, camaraderie, and a deep respect for the sea.
The blue and white colour palette emphasises Qatar’s maritime traditions, evoking the vast expanse of the Gulf and the clarity of its waters.
The friendly and approachable cartoon style adds a modern touch while celebrating the importance of the sea in Qatari culture, from fishing and trading to its symbolic role as a gateway to the world.
Together, this design honours Qatar’s legacy as a maritime nation, while highlighting the beauty and value of its historic connection to the pearl trade.
